Overview
The purpose of homework for students is to
foster their development of academic skills, concepts, and personal
responsibility.
The guiding principles embedded in this
policy are:
Homework assignments should improve student
learning by reinforcing skills and concepts.
Homework assignments should develop
personal responsibility.
Each child should be able to do the
majority of their homework independently.
Parents should be able to assist their
child with homework when necessary.
Homework practices should be consistent
within a grade level.
Homework practices should build from one
grade level to the next.
It is expected that assigned homework will
be completed, and there will be a classroom process to check on the homework
completion.
Homework Assignment Guidelines
Nursery to UKG:
Children will read, or be read to, 20
minutes per day.
There will be 5 to 10 minute additional
formal written homework in each subject.
Homework should be similar/same to
classwork so that parents can guide them easily.
Teachers may provide parents with a list of
educational activities such as math and spelling games or Montessori based
activities that they may choose to do with their children.
Grade1and 2:
Children will read, or be read to, 30
minutes per day.
There will be 5 to 10 minute additional
formal written homework in each subject.
Homework should be similar/same to class
work so that parents can guide them easily.
Teachers may provide parents with a list of
educational activities such as math and spelling games that they may choose to
do with their children.
Grade 3 to 5:
Students will read independently for 40
minutes. They will keep a reading log documenting their reading habits and
progress.
There will be 10 to 20 minute additional
formal written homework in at least 4 subjects.
Students may receive additional math's
homework including the practice of math skills and concepts for up to 15
minutes per day.
Grade 6 to 8
Students will read independently for 50
minutes from a personal reading book or assigned class book. They will keep a
reading log documenting their reading habits and progress.
There will be 15 to 30 minute additional
formal written homework in at least 4 subjects.
Students may receive additional math and
science homework including the practice of skills and concepts for up to 30
minutes per day.
Grade 9 and 10
Students will prepare daily routine for
studying at home.
They will keep a reading log documenting
their reading habits and progress.
Each subjects will be practiced at least 15
min per day.
Emphasis should be given to math and
science with 60 min self-practice.
Students can make reading note or solve the
problems from question bank or homework given by teachers.
